Dr. John Wilson Community Garden
The Black Mountain Community Garden serves as a multi-purpose resource in the community. It provides education to people of all ages, a location for community members to garden, and through volunteer efforts, the garden donates over 4,000 pounds of vegetables every year to area food pantries and kitchens.
The garden also features perennial plantings of apples, figs, and berries, as well as culinary and medicinal herbs. A new one quarter acre permaculture site is being developed in 2012 as will as Medicinal at-risk plant trail designed by Healing Roots Design with technical support from United Plant Savers. The plant trail is on the national registry of Botanical Plant Sanctuaries.
The garden is also a great place to walk, run or bike thanks to the new Garden Greenway which extends around the garden and connects into the greater Black Mountain Greenway Trail system.
Come for a visit. Volunteer hours change throughout the year and are posted on the Black Mountain Parks and Recreation website.
