Randall Cove Farm
About Us
Randall Cove Farm is the home farm of Randall Glen, an 80-acre mountain property about 30 minutes northwest of Asheville in the historic farming community of Big Sandy Mush. Randall Glen is an agritourism destination, and in addition to the working farm it includes five vacation cabins, living history, and other amenities on the property. We have a trail ride stable and ride miles of trails on the adjoining 2,000 acres of conservation wilderness. Our intent is to allow our guests to share in a way of life that is rapidly disappearing in America: a closeness to the land; good food produced locally; a relationship with the animals that provide food, fibers, and labor; and the pure experiences of unspoiled natural beauty and crystal clear air. This is a place where kids can run loose and make their own fun as so many generations before them have done.
Randall Cove Farm is a traditional small scale, self sufficient, mountain farm. About 30 acres is in pasture, two acres in garden and orchard, and the rest is wooded mountainside with ample springs and creeks. We have a herd of about 40 Nubian goats for milk and cheese, about 30 Shetland sheep for wool and meat, and two Jersey cows for milk and cheese. We raise heritage Red Wattle hogs as well. We keep chickens, ducks, and Guineas for eggs and meat, and Sebastopol geese and peacocks for their beauty. We have ponds stocked with trout, bream, bass, and crappie. The woods are filled with a variety of wild greens, herbs, nuts, and fruits that we harvest. Between the young orchard and the garden of a little over an acre, we raise more than 60 varieties of vegetables and fruits, many of them heirlooms. We share the yield of the farm with our guests and welcome them to participate in its working. We also offer CSA memberships.
